Kannan, a former associate of director Mani Ratnam, is presently busy with ‘Settai’, re-make of the Bollywood blockbuster ‘Delhi Belly’. Starring Aarya, Hansika, Santhanam, Anjali and Premji Amaran in the lead roles, the movie is shaping up rather well, say the makers.
Speaking about the film, Kannan, who directed ‘Kanden Kadhalai’ and ‘Jayamkondan’, says, ‘I changed the script to suit the local palate’. The movie was produced in Hindi by Aamir Khan and was about three youngsters and how their dreams come true in a funny and complicated manner.
About Arya, he says, ‘you will see a fresh-looking Arya in this film. He has no airs and is a cooperative and dedicated artiste. He plays the role of a journalist named Jayakanthan’. Hansika is always keen to learn and reach the next level in acting. She plays the role of Madhu, an airhostess, played by Shehnaz in the original, Kannan says.
Heaping laurels on Santhanam, he says, ‘We worked together in ‘Kanden Kadhalai’ earlier. He is spontaneous and a livewire on the sets. It is nice to work with him’. A huge set was erected at Binny Mills in Chennai where major portion of the movie has been shot. Thaman has scored the music while P G Muthiah is behind the camera.
