Captain Vijayakanth has just one plan here – to promote himself over the screens by reaching the people as much as possible. He is there expressing his promises to the people that he would focus into such arenas if raised on power. Yes, ‘Virudhagiri’ is a clear-cut political propaganda with the main plot taken from Hollywood movie ‘Taken’.
The film is about Virudhagiri (Vijayakanth), a well acclaimed police officer across the globe. He has hunted down several terrorists across the world and is now coming back to Chennai. Virudhagiri is assigned with the duty of safeguarding the rights of Indian students being attacked in Australia. On his ongoing task, he comes across a terrific group massacring the transgender for organ racketing. Sooner he traps the baddies and brings them before the justice. But now he is shocked to hear that his nephew like daughter Priya (Madhuri) has been kidnapped in Australia. Now he sets out on the mission of rescuing her. Can he find her or not forms crux of the story?
Vijayakanth as a director has done a neat job and his style of screenplay is riveting. The first completely focuses into the societal problems while the second half shifts into a different arena. The complete second hour is filled with lots of runs and chases. Vijayakanth has done whatever it is possible to capture the hearts of his fans.
Technically, the film has surpassed in few areas like music, background score and cinematography is good. Editing by Savin is remarkable as it enables the screenplay get on with gripping manner.
The film will be a sure hit amongst the fans of Vijayakanth fans while for other it will be a movie that is worth watching once.
Verdict: Decent effort by Vijayakanth
