The first thing that needs to be noted is that the huge marketing publicity made globally for Billa 2 which is a prequel of Billa 1 that released a few years ago gave excitement to the nerves of the audience throughout the world. From studios Wide Angle Creations tied up with IN Entertainment which was Distributed by Aascar Films was enormously the most anticipated movie of the year for Ajith fans.

This being Ajith’s 51st film, after the blockbuster of Mangatha as the title scorches the screen, everyone expected fire-works for the introduction of Ajith Kumar but it’s in vain as the film starts with a normal introduction for the mass hero. Beaten by 3 men’s and holding him tight, Ajith speaks the 1st dialogue of the movie “Dai en vazhakaila ovoru naalum ovoru nimishamum yean ovoru nodium nana sethuknadhuda” which enthralled the fans to boom from their seats. After then till the interval there was no applauds or whistle sounds from the audience. The Billa 2 movie did evolved inside the story rather slightly slipped away in the screenplay department.

The first half fully rounds up into showing Billa @David Billa like a refugee comes into a camp says that he has one sister living in Chennai but due to family problems he can’t go to her and makes friends with Ranjith @ Yog Japee and few others in the refugee camp. From there the film goes how billa overcomes problems created by the higher official inspector in the refugee camp and billa himself gets into police custody for beating him . To take a revenge on David Billa the Inspector plans later to kill billa by sending him and Ranjith to deliver tons of fish load to Chennai by lorry.

After knowing that they have been trapped in the check post by the police Billa and Ranjith manages to escape from the check post and delivers the fish load lorry to the owner Annachi @ Ilavarasu and getting his good trust. Ilavarasu did a very decent job in his role for the given time of period.

Billa decides to meet his sister who stays in Chennai and her daughter Jasmine @ Parvathy Omanakuttan . And later on Billa kills the inspector and dares to transfer safely a sum of 1 crore worth cocaine stuffs safely to goa which was under the control of Abbasi @ Sudhanshu Pandey and finishes the deal with success by getting the trust from Abbasi.

As Billa becomes the trusted main man of Abbasi and deals with various gangster stuffs and goes to aboard to make a high deal with the film’s main man Dimitri @ Vidyut Jamwal. Billa II became the first Indian film to be shot at the Likani Palace, which functions as a summer residence of the President of Georgia. After returning to India Billa gets hatred from Abbasi for not consulting his permission to make a deal with the danger man Dimitri which cracks the relation between Abbasi and David billa. As Abbasi orders billa to serve under him and not to take any advantage . Billa quits the relation with Abbasi and walks out with Ranjith as the first half finishes showing Billa moves alone.

The audience expected at least in the second half there would be any mass for Ajith’s performance but the film maker failed to impress & satisfy the needs of a commercial likes. In the second half, after knowing that Abassi tried to kill him, Billa takes revenge with Abassi by killing him for the cruel thing he have done to him. Billa grows bigger and viral with the Trendsetting song “Unnakule Mirugam”. The film from the second part is all about games between the danger man Dimitri and Billa. Whether billa succeeded or failed with Dimitri will be shown at the climax risk taking action performance by Ajith Kumar. Bruna Abdullah and Parvathy Omanakuttan who comes in their respective roles did their job decently.

Ajithkumar should be praised for his acting and becoming a director’s actor. Almost for the whole film Ajith have lesser dialogues to speak. It seems he haven’t changed anything in the script to his wish and goes as a flow by giving his worth full acting to what the director expects from him. Ajith carried his role in a decent way all through the film and put lots of efforts for taking risk in stunts which would give him a wide appreciation.

Yuvan Shankar Raja’s Music on one side “Madurai ponnu” had spicy visuals and “Unnakule mirugam” a different way of graphical co-ordination comes above the charts whereas on the other side, the audience hugely disappointed as the film didn’t contain the song “Idhayam Intha Idhayam” melody flavor missed out. When comes into the BGM of the film. Yuvan would have concentrated more in the BGM as the film remains calm in the first half which totally made the movie a silent slow one.

R.D Rajasekhar’s cinematography will set a new trend in Indian cinema for having the courage to shoot with a RED EPIC Camera which used for many Hollywood films. It must be said Billa2 was filmed with an RED EPIC Camera, becoming the first Indian production to be shot with it. The cinematography is excellently done by the technical crew and especially appreciation for the color correction they involved to get a Hollywood look which they have succeeded.

Director Chakri Toleti , who directed Unnai pol oruvan in whom the audience had a huge expectation , to say he did succeeded to show a successful story but did made slight mistakes in carrying the screenplay without much spicy into it. Billa 2 concentrated fully to show a powerful storyline where Ajith masked the character David Billa which always suits him tremendously powerful. Wrapping up , Billa 2 is a movie that portrayed David Billa’s raise as a gangster with strong story but a weak screenplay.

Stars: 3 out of 5

Verdict : A Shiny Rifle with no Bullets in it.
